Specification

Spherical Cast Steel Shot

Spherical cast steel shot is a high-carbon cast abrasive with a hardness of 460–560 HV ± 40 HV (46–53 HRC) in accordance with ISO 11125-3.

It is designed for high-performance blast cleaning processes, particularly in automated shot blasting systems equipped with turbine wheels.

Chemical Composition

Chemical composition complies with ISO 11125-1 and SAE J827 standards.

Typical composition of cast steel:

  • Carbon (C): 0.8 – 1.2%

  • Manganese (Mn): 0.35 – 1.2%

  • Silicon (Si): minimum 0.4%

  • Sulfur (S) and Phosphorus (P): maximum 0.05%

Grain Size Range

Grain size distribution:
S 70 – S 1320, in accordance with SAE J444 (AUG 84, revised May 1993).

Main Applications

Spherical steel shot is primarily used in shot blasting machines with turbine throwing wheels for:

  • Cleaning castings from molding sand

  • Removing sprues from castings and metallurgical products

  • Removing mill scale from sheets, plates, and sections

  • Removing burrs from castings

  • Cleaning metallurgical products and components after machining or fabrication

Key Advantages

  • High durability and long service life

  • Consistent spherical shape for controlled impact

  • Uniform surface finish

  • High efficiency in automated blasting systems
